Cognitive neurophysiology
We focus the science of the subjective health experience with a
cognitive neuroscience and translational science approach.
Health statistics demonstrate that half of the sick leave
absence in Sweden may be ascribed to the subjective health axis.
Our vision is to develop comprehensive physiological/biomedical
explanations to the subjective health experience and the
mission is defined by the unmet medical needs in patients
with a low subjective health experience/low self esteem or
chronic pain.
Subjective experiences are regulated from the pre-frontal
cortex and we study how the descending cortical control
exerts influence on e.g. pain experience, emotional/cognitive
regulation and inflammatory markers and in treatment
intervention studies.
We have expertise in PET, MRI, in behavioral science
incl. behavioral genetics. Our research results have had
impact on the understanding of pain regulation,
emotional regulation and decisionmaking.
